Index-learn RomânĂ

Hi there ! This blog is about helping you learning Romanian language. Now if I would be the reader of this blog, first thing would come into my mind is that there is so much stuff on internet related to this language then why would I stay and loose time here. So I am gonna give you reasons why this blog is different than anything else you can possibly find on internet related to Romanian language .

This blog is written after searching and observing all possible content on internet related to Romanian language. That means, I am gonna present here things in way which will really help you to get better in understanding and speaking this language real fast. With time we will mention why my technique of learning language is way different than others and that’s what makes it fast.

Now what I found out and saw being in Romania is that every foreigner took from 3 to 10 years to get fluent in this beautiful language. But what if I tell you that I can make you able to speak and understand this language up till 80% in just 3 months?

No, I am not kidding. Believe me, consider this your first day and it will just take 2 months and 29 days more until you start to communicate with a native Romanian without letting him know that you are not from Romania except your physical appearance of course :) .

Now last but not the least, I, myself, have learned this language in 6 months and believe me, I am not a nerd :) .  Now I took double time because I didn’t have proper content in proper sequence but with the proper guidance I provide here, same work can be done in 3 months.
So what you say? Are you ready to take this chance? Anyway all it would take is to just get in touch with this blog. Not very hard I guess :) . Now, I am sure many of you would think that its just a trick to make you visit my blog frequently. Well believe me, its totally up to your own interest. You can either close this blog right now or can give it a chance.

Its just a help for you, I hope you would take it instead of increasing your labour and tension to learn this language on your own.

Well Well Well, enough about this blog, Now lets get started for sake of those who decided to stay.

I am pretty sure that if you are reading this blog, you are highly desperate to learn this language for some reason and some of you also started already. So it might be possible that what I am gonna say here today, some of you are already familiar with, but please don’t get disappointed or demoralized because the only key to learn language faster is to keep your patience.

So, those who already have started learning this language from somewhere else can go to Summary section in last to make their first part fast. I also gave a link in beginning : Summary-Part 1 for same purpose . Beginners, please keep reading.

Now, today I am gonna tell you things or better to say expressions which you need as soon as you even think to start a communication with any Romanian. Now for starter I am gonna focus only on 1st person and 2nd person.

Now what the hack is that 1st persona and 2nd person :) . I hate when someone talks in nerdy language. So let’s take things in simple way. What all I am saying is that we are going to learn expressions which will be useful when you will speak for yourself or for the person you would be talking with. For example if you say :

I am so mad at you.

I hope you are not :) . Anyway so in above sentence I is 1st person and you is 2nd person.
Making things more clear, I am gonna explain things here like I wanna talk with you in Romanian. Now Romanian language has this extraordinary aspect which we don’t get in English. They have different pronouns, different addressing and different expressions related to whom you are talking with. If you are talking with someone who is formal to you or way too respected then you use formal aspect of language otherwise informal.

For example, you use tu for informal and dumnevoastră for formal, for saying you. Strange right ? :) I also thought same at first but you will get used to these, I promise.
Now it’s time to mention why this blog is different than any other. I am gonna first explain things taking you as my friend. That means I will start with informal aspects of language. After all first you need to learn how to communicate with your friends than any other :) . Here things are different because all of the blogs or contents over internet involve you in both of the aspects and teach you thinsg for every person from very beginning. And result of that, you don’t even notice when things got so messy and you mixed up everything you learned so far.

Now when you know that we are gonna start with the informal expressions and for 1st and 2nd persons, Lets START !!!

First expression is to greet someone. Now Let’s imagine you just meet some of your friend. What are you gonna say if he only understands Romanian. Answer is Buna or Salut. Now there are many different opinions related to these greetings but what I encountered mostly is that if you are gonna talk with a friend who is girl then you say Buna and when you talk with a friend who is guy then you say Salut.

So here is the start, now after greetings, what we usually ask is : How are you ? In romanian we say : Ce Faci?  Now let’s say I met you then I will say :

Buna, Ce faci ? (if you are girl)

Salut, Ce faci ? (if you are guy)

Now there are pronunciation difference between Romanian and English which I will explain time to time. So for above expressions, we need to learn four differences in pronunciation:

In Romanian : Ce = In English : Che  in chest
In Romanian : Ci = In English : Chi in chicken
In Romanian : a = In English : a in march
In Romanian : f = In English : f in far

There are five special alphabets in Romanian which we dot use in English but we will come to that in time. So now you know how to speak expressions I mentioned earlier. Now when I say those expressions after meeting you, what would you answer?
Basically in English we can think of six answers :

1.       I am good. ( sunt bine)
2.      I am very good. ( sunt foarte bine)
3.      I am Ok type. (sunt aşa şi-aşa)
4.      I am not very good.( Nu sunt prea bine)
5.      I am bad.( Sunt rău)
6.      I am very bad.( Sunt foarte rău)

Now we have to learn few more things here for these answers. Pronunciations of used alphabets above are :

In Romanian : s = In English : s in suit
In Romanian : u = In English : u  in suit
In Romanian : n = In English : n  in nest
In Romanian : t = In English : t in test
In Romanian : b = In English : b in book
In Romanian : i = In English : e in east
In Romanian : e = In English : a in case
In Romanian : o = In English : o in corpse
In Romanian : r = In English : r in rat
In Romanian : p = In English : p in palm

Now few of you might think that many alphabets like s, u ,n, t etc. are behaving same as in English then why I mentioned them. Here is answer of your curiosity –

Try to speak : SUN in English and then in Romanian (using the pronunciation I explained above)

I hope now you got why its necessary that you learn those pronunciation for Romanian alphabets and remember it like your own name :P
Now the special character I used :

In Romanian : Ş = In English : sh in brush
In Romanian : ă = In English : u in return

So I guess, now you are able to give me response in Romanian . Lets see our conversation once more and please try to practice it by speaking it out loud.

Me : Salut/Buna. Ce faci?

You : Salut. Sunt bine/ sunt foarte bine/ sunt aşa şi-aşa/ Nu sunt prea bine/ Sunt rău/ Sunt foarte rău

Yup you got it :) I am a guy :P ( as you used salut for me :) )
Now one more small thing, “aşa şi-aşa” – this expression is used a lot by Romanian and they frequently speak it like : aşaşaşa
So try to speak it same as any native Romanian :) . Now you might be thinking why I used “-“ in “aşa şi-aşa”, well this dash (-) is called : cratima  in Romanian and DON’T MIND IT. I will come to it later, just so that you know the correct form of writing : aşa şi-aşa, I used that. Now we have few more alphabets to clear pronunciation so let’s do it.

In Romanian : c = In English : c in cold
In Romanian : m = In English : m in mount

So done for today, I guess your mind is overflowing with many new facts you discover today about this sweet language :) . Those who already are familiar with these terms, I again ask them to have patience. Believe me, you won’t regret it after 3 months.
Lets have a revision of what we learned so far :

For today, its enough, keep practicing of expression what I explained with right pronunciation. You can use Google Translate for hearing those expressions.

Your homework is to say those expressions to as many persons as you can :) so that you may practice them well and spell one more word : Română, this is how you call Romanian language in Romanian :) and now on I am gonna call it same as its short and easy :P .
In next post, I will take you a little higher level than this.

Until then feel proud that you started learning and enjoy Română.
